The partnership aims to promote the internationalization of eco-environmental standards, focusing on sustainable development, green finance, and carbon neutrality. Both parties will leverage their strengths to contribute to global ecological modernization.
The Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences (CRAES) and the World Sustainability Standards Organization (WSSO) signed a strategic cooperation agreement on September 9, 2024. Li Haisheng, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of CRAES, and WSSO Director-General Bruno Wu attended the signing ceremony.
Li Haisheng noted the comprehensive arrangements made at the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee for deepening the reform in ecological conservation and the scientific and technological structure, adding that CRAES will implement the arrangements by strengthening international exchange and cooperation in climatic and environmental technologies and exploring new paths for the internationalization of eco-environmental standards. He recognized WSSO’s rich resources and experience in such areas as green finance, carbon neutrality, and international standards, noting its cooperation with the University of Cambridge, Columbia University, and other top-tier institutions. The signing of the strategic cooperation agreement will enable the two sides to further deepen their practical cooperation in sustainable development, find new ways of internationalizing eco-environmental standards, and contribute new momentum and strengths to accelerating the modernization process characterized by the harmonious coexistence between man and nature, said Li.
Director-General Bruno Wu gave an overview of WSSO’s vision and what it has done since its inception. Urging both sides to foster a win-win partnership that can bring into play their respective strengths, he called for joint efforts to implement the agreement and promote the application of China’s experience in eco-environmental conservation worldwide.
The two sides discussed the current cooperation on and prospects of international eco-environmental standards, natural capital, clean transport, and other areas. CRAES’ Vice President Chen Sheng and personnel from the International Cooperation Center, Environmental Standards Institute, Research Center for Environmental Management, Institute of Ecological Environment, and Center for Pollution and Carbon Reduction were present at the signing ceremony.
